How you can contribute
As our new Flexibility Trading Lead, you'll join Reel at an exciting moment — our BESS pipeline across Denmark and Germany is growing rapidly, and we already count some of Denmark's largest co-located BESS assets among our portfolio, alongside a newly launched hybrid (PV+BESS) PPA offering for corporate clients.
Trading renewables smartly and flexibly is becoming ever more critical, both for Reel's position as a leading BRP and for the asset owners we work with, who face rising balancing costs and declining capture rates. To seize this opportunity, we need someone who can do two things exceptionally well: build the quantitative infrastructure that drives asset performance, and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the origination team to close deals.
Based in our Copenhagen office, you'll be embedded in the Trading team, working closely with the Chief Trading Officer (your direct manager), the Head of Power Solutions, and the Chief Commercial Officer.
What your role will look like
Your mandate spans two interlinked domains. Expect a varied and commercially impactful set of responsibilities, including:
Quantitative development & optimisation
Build and maintain flexibility trading algorithms for renewable, hybrid and BESS assets, maximising revenue across energy, ancillary services, and capacity markets in Denmark (first, then Germany, then expanding to wider Europe.
Design, back-test, implement in code and continuously improve trading strategies for intraday, imbalance, and frequency response markets.
Build revenue stacking models that quantify and optimise the interplay between co-located revenue streams, including hybrid wind/solar-plus-storage configurations.
Design optimisation models in unison with hybrid PPA offerings, ensuring max value for developers and corporates.
Be responsible and accountable for the realized performance of our flexibility portfolio
Commercial development & origination support
Support the origination team in closing standalone and co-located BESS transactions by preparing revenue models, co-location business cases, as well as optimisation and balancing proposals
Serve as the quantitative voice in front of customers, investors, and lenders — translating complex modelling outputs into compelling commercial narratives.
Engage directly with offtakers, flexibility platforms, and TSOs to structure commercial frameworks and identify new revenue opportunities, including leading pre-qualification efforts towards TSO.
Monitor regulatory and market developments feeding actionable insights back into strategy, pipeline prioritisation, and asset design
Shape Reel’s strategy for trading in new markets - which countries to go for, with what products and how to integrate them in our automated trading setup.
Overall, we’d expect you’d spend around 70-80% on the quant development side and 20-30% on the commercial side, being mostly involved in key touchpoints in the commercial dialogue. This might change as we grow our portfolio and will be dependent on the needs of the business.
We think you will thrive in this role if
You have at least a couple of years of prior experience with working with flexible asset optimization in a real-world setting.
You have a deep understanding of value drivers such as wholesale and ancillary service markets in a European context.
You are commercially minded and motivated by finding new ways to deliver asset performance.
You are proficient in Python software development with proven ability to write production code.
You have a mathematical mindset and are able to translate business problems to trading strategies and algorithms.
You are comfortable with balancing the trade offs between complexity and speed to market.
